Source Soccer League (ssL) - AMATEUR TOURNAMENT

Hello,

First of all I would like to explain who I am and why I made this post.

I am an official of a league called Source Soccer League (SSL) which is a Counter-Strike Source Soccer League based in North America and was created in 2007. The popularity of this "mod" has grown since then and the league has grown to a well known competition and community. This league plays as well as any other league and hosts various public tournaments that are arranged by members of our community and other official tournaments or events which are run by the league staff itself.

Never played CS:S soccer before? Here are some of our promotional videos:

Panda's FUG series:

SvP highlight video from Season 3:

Here are a few tips.

Quote:
* Running around chasing the ball gets you nowhere. So try finding a space on the pitch and wait for a teammate to pass to you.
* Hitting the ball can be a tough task sometimes on its own, especially if you have never played before. Easiest way of hitting the ball is aim your cursor on the centre of the ball and use your left mouse button to hit it.
* Aiming the ball is pretty simple, just point the direction you want to aim and then hit the ball. Another easy way to hit the ball is to crouch.
* You may see some players using the wall and other types of skill to hit the ball. Don't worry all that will come with time and practice. But remember its nice to be nice and have fun.
Please note: This is only a very basic description for new players.

Well that explains a little about us and a very basic description about playing, you're probably wondering why I'm here. Well I'm here to invite your clan/community to a tournament being hosted by SSL for new players only. This will be a 6v6 tournament played on the map ka_soccer_2008ssL. All rules of play can be found at http://www.sourcesoccerleague.com/in...=75&Itemid=132 . If you would like to come play with us, we currently have 3 official servers up:

Match Server (requires a password): 75.102.38.64:27015

Public Server #1: 74.201.57.211:27015

Public Server #2: 66.150.214.70:27015

This is a free to join tournament as we are extremely well sponsored by a game server company called Art of War who not only provide us with any equipment that we may need but they also do special deals for our league members.

All those interested in signing up please visit our website (must register to see forums) http://www.sourcesoccerleague.com/ph...php?f=42&t=951 or click the image above and register yourself and your clan to our tournament. And remember, this is an AMATEUR-ONLY tournament!

Closing date will be 4-18-10 for sign ups - so get your team in before then! If you find that you can't make the minimum requirement of 8 players, then you can just sign up as a Free Agent. Once the Free Agent pool gets up to 8 players, then you can form a team with those players.

We are just about to enter our 5th season as a community, and we would really like to see you come out and play!

Regards,

~Dill http://www.sourcesoccerleague.com

Why would you post links to another GSP in our forum?

Son of a *****!

I didn't even realize that. I was just trying to say we have a decent server and sponsorship from someone, to add to the credibility of the ssL.

But that credibility kind of goes out the window when I post that on another companies forums! I just see Branzone all over the place for BFH and BC2, and I thought it would be a good place to post about our upcoming Tournament.

I can't edit my original post for some reason. Can someone please just delete the entire paragraph about the other server company? Again, I sincerely apologize about that - I feel like an idiot now!

On a similar note though - does Branzone offer any sponsorship opportunities? With the World Cup 2010 coming up, a 12 slot CSS server could really help us promote the ssL and likewise Branzone. I know it's a stretch, but I thought I'd ask.

If this at all interests you, but you don't want to participate in any Tournaments, then maybe you would like to come and play with us in one of our Pick Up Games (PUG). Pick Up Games typically happen all throughout the day starting at ~2 p.m. CST and ending around ~1 a.m. CST - depending on the day. These are school-yard style games, where we have 2 captains alternate in selecting teams for a 6v6 match. The match consists of two 15 minute halves with a 5 minute halftime, and uses standard SSL rules with 2 wings, 1 center, 2 defenders, and 1 goalie. Once the match is over, a new PUG typically starts within 10 minutes or so, depending on how long it takes to get a 12 people in the server.

These PUGS are a great way to try out ka_soccer and play a fun 6v6 match. We typically have PUGS in our Match server, but we will try to start hosting pugs in our Public server so we can get any interested Amateurs involved.

In light of all the new players coming into the soccer servers, we have set up an "ssL Training" server located at 66.150.214.70:27015 . There are currently 3 training maps on the server:

Goalie Training:

This map has two ball shooting machines that go in opposite semi-circular patterns. One ball will be loaded into one of the machines, and then fired at the net. It's your job to stop it. You won't know which machine will load the ball, but you will have a brief moment right before it fires to see the ball being loaded. This is great for goal keepers.

Header Training:

This map is essentially a large cube shaped arena with 2 nets. Ball Cannons are located on two of the walls, which will launch a "chip" style lob pass to the center of the map, allowing for the player to practice receiving and hitting headers (balls flying in the air). You can also practice 180 shots and passes with the Ball-Cannon lobs as well. This is a great map for any offensive players in the game, as well as anyone interesetd in getting better with headers.

Team Training:

This map has 20 balls on it and is great to use as a team training map for passing/chipping and general individual ball control.

*Anyone* can have admin to the server, and as long as you're a registered ssL member, you are eligible to reserve the server for up to 1 hour of private practice with your team. If you would like admin, just message me or any other League Official on Steam and we'll come give it to you.

Come out and test your skills on our new ssL Soccer Training Server!
